Todd shared this with people before a seminar with Loren Lockman in the spring of 2004
Greetings Everyone,
It’s been a little while since we had Loren Lockman here to speak, and I’m very glad we can have him back. He’s had a busy schedule with his worldwide speaking tour and running his fasting clinic and wellness center near DC.
For those of you who don’t know Loren, he’s actually the original founder of the Hampton Roads Living Foods Community. I believe it’s been about 7 years now since our humble beginnings. Loren was living here at the time. He was shopping regularly at the Heritage Store where I work. He would fill his basket up with mainly fruit. Needless to say this left me more than a bit intrigued. We got to talking about his diet and he told me he was a raw foodist. At the time it definitely seemed like a strange notion to me. Little did I know that I would soon be following the same path with a strong passion.
One day Loren and another friend Jill Harrington decided to organize a raw foods potluck, with Loren giving a lecture at the event. It was held at Deb Wood’s house, where we have since had so many wonderful and memorable events. With no experience at this point preparing raw foods, I believe I made a watermelon boat, if memory serves correctly. There were maybe 15 people or so in attendance. I certainly didn’t know what I was getting myself into!
I was definitely impressed with the food that was there. But, what impressed me most was the words coming from Loren. It was one of those rare moments when something you experience really clicks deep inside you and you know you are forever changed. It was very obvious that this was to be a calling for me. I am deeply grateful to Loren for introducing me to a path that has changed me for the better on every level. I immediately went to 50% raw and began reading everything I could get my hands on that explained the diet. I also began experimenting with raw food prep and got a real passion for that. Thus began my path.
Soon after this event, and some subsequent potlucks, Loren, and then Jill, left the area for other pursuits. At this point I had been helping to organize the potlucks. So, if the Hampton Roads Living Foods Community was to continue, I was the only one in a position to be the spokesperson. Anyway, needless to say, I then ran with it, and have not looked back, except to offer gratitude to those who helped bring me here. So, Thanks to Loren and Jill and all my other teachers out there!!
I recommend that you come out to hear Loren’s story, how he brought himself back from poor health to a such a high level, by taking control of his diet, his lifestyle, and thus his life; a story that has changed me forever.
Peace,
Todd
