Marcia - 21 Days

How long was your fast?
21 days

When did you fast?
August 3, 2003 --- August 23, 2003

What was your age, gender, height, weight before your fast?
28, Female, 5’4”, 182

What was your weight after completing the fast? What is your weight now?
157lbs / 159lbs (August 30)

Why did you decide to fast?
I was eating unhealthy foods, practicing negative food behaviors, gaining unhealthy weight, becoming depressed and feeling guilty. The cycle needed to be broken and I decided to fast.

What was your biggest apprehension going into the fast?
Did not really have apprehension. I knew this process was going to help me regain control. I was actually worried about being away from home for so long.

Did you ever consider ending the fast during the process? If so, why? Why did you continue/stop?
The thought came and went. The healing crisis are some of the hardest moments. That is when you want to call it quits. But then the body can not contiue the work; and gets back-logged once again. It is not good to leave a fast that way.

Did you accomplish what you set out to do with your fast?
Yes, my body did some intense work in the time and space alotted. The body always does if you let it.

Would you recommend that people have their fasts supervised? Why, or why not?
Definitely supervised. Questions get answered, vitals are checked and there is nothing expected of you but rest.

Why did you choose to fast at the Tanglewood Wellness Center?
It is in MD where I live. Loren was able to address my concerns by phone and ease my mind and when I came to visit, I loved the house.

What was your experience like at Tanglewood?
Very restful, no schedules, optional activities, nice staff, meeting other fasters. . . . .very nice.

What did you experience during the fast?
Everything. Emotional ups and downs; days with low energy, headaches, sore throat; happy times; fun times; reflective times; frustration, times of extreme focus----all good things.

How did you spend your time?
Reading, thinking, sleeping, more sleeping, resting, speaking with other fasters and staff, meditating, sunbathing, attending lectures/demonstrations.

Just purified water? Were you hungry?
No, never truly hungry. I felt my tummy moving things around, but true hunger comes from the mouth. Maybe if I fasted longer, I would have.

Did you get weak?
I felt decreasing energy by day 3, then days 5-10 very low; that was my health crisis, then by day 13 or 14 I felt more energy.

What was the best part of the process for you?
Knowing what was going on with my body, learning how different habits affected it---like not enough water intake, etc.

What was the most difficult part of the process for you?
Wanting to know when the crisis was going to be over. But never being able to pinpoint the end, just waiting it out.

Was it ever painful?
Yes. During the crisis I had a migraine, sore throat and other things going on simultaneously. But they did pass.

What are you experiencing now after the fast?
Clear-headedness, dedication to a healthier way of life. Positive energy geared toward being successful. I am more focused on what I need to do.

Did you experience any changes due to fasting?
I anticipate overall easier digestion, higher energy, better ability to pay attention to the body.

What kind of diet are you following after your fast?
My goal is to eat as close to an all raw as possible. My system is clean now so that should be easy.

Is eating difficult for you now that you’ve complete the fast?
Eating was not difficult during re-feeding and I do not anticipate having any prblems or complications.

Would you fast again?
Absolutely. Maybe around the same time next year.

What advice would you give to other fasters?
Fasting under the watchful eye of a good doctor, like Dr. Tim Trader, is always a good thing. Fast on!

Additional Comments:
Try not to worry about how many days you will be without food, because you probably won’t be hungry. Rather, focus on the good things that come from a break.
