Spiral Fasting Testimonials

Leah - 1 week

Leah's photo How long did you fast?
I fasted for 7 days.

When did you fast?
From a.m. December 17 to p.m. December 23

What is your age, gender, weight before your fast, and height? I'm 46, female, probably weighed around 119 before the fast, and am 5' 5 and a half inches.

What was your weight after completing the fast? What is your weight now?
After the fast I think I was around 110. Now I'm back to 119.

Why did you decide to fast?
I had heard from Loren about the benefits of fasting, had never been able to do a water fast on my own and wanted to try it under supervision.

What was your biggest apprehension going into the fast?
Didn't really have any big apprehensions; maybe 'cause I had supervision and felt there would be support there if I needed it.

Did you ever consider ending the fast during the process?
No, I pretty much knew I wanted to go the seven days and did.

Why and why did you continue or stop?
I continued because I had committed to it ahead of time.

Did you accomplish what you set out to do with your fast?
Yes, I did. I felt like my overall health upgraded because of the fast.

Would you recommend that people have their fasts supervised? Why or why not?
Yes I would. It's just too easy to quit when you're at home or on your own. Friends can easily persuade you or you can give in to your "hunger" in the early stages of your fast.

Why did you choose to fast at the Tanglewood Wellness Center?
I knew Loren and felt more comfortable fasting with someone I knew rather than a stranger.

What was your experience at the TWC like?
The setting was quiet; Loren checked in with me every day. I appreciated his confidence in the body's ability to heal itself during a fast, and he was quick to assure me of that when needed.

What did you experience during the fast?
I did feel some hunger sensations the first few days. Felt pretty weak which I knew was from the detoxing going on. Also felt waves of creativity. Enjoyed reading, writing, and some conversing when I wasn't resting. Got clarity on some life directions regarding my work.

What did you do all day?
Rested, read some, wrote in my journal; showered once in a while.

Just purified water? Did you get hungry?
Yes, I felt hunger off and on, but never unbearable.

Did you get weak?
Especially after taking my showers. They sent me right back to bed for a big nap.

What was the best part of the process for you?
Knowing that I could do it. Knowing that I was healing my body in a profound way. Getting creative insights along the way.

What was the most difficult part of the process for you?
A couple of time I would get these waves of naseau which I didn't like.

Was it ever painful?
The naseau was annoying; had a lot of burping, too. But never really painful.

What did you experience after the fast?
I was pretty weak, but noticed my strength start to return after I broke the fast. Four days later I was on a hiking trail hopping over rocks. My body felt lighter and stronger.

Did you experience any changes due to fasting?
I think my health definitely upgraded after the fast. My body felt free of the usual arthritic aches I had before. I felt pretty flexible.

What kind of diet did you follow after your fast?
I eased back into eating with a couple of oranges that first night; more fruit the next day. A salad for dinner that night. Felt very good--was happy that I could ease back into eating slowly. Gradually added a few soaked sunflower seeds.

Was eating difficult afterwards?
No, it was very enjoyable. In fact, I appreciated eating more than ever. Food seemed to digest better than ever.

Would you fast again?
Yes, I would--probably about every six months I'd do a week-long fast.

What piece of advice would you give to other fasters?
I'd say not to be afraid of it and to treat themselves to a supervised fast by someone they trust the first time around, if they're never done a successful water fast before.

Additional comments:
I think breaking the fast correctly is VERY important. When I used to juice fast at age 23, I never broke my fasts properly. I was quite pleased that I could break this fast correctly with fruit--slowly easing back into eating with no digestion problems or overeating.
