Kira - 22 1/2 daysHow long did you fast?22 1/2 days, 5 1/2 days refeeding When did you fast? January 31-February 27, 2004 What is your age, gender, weight before your fast, and height? 26, Female, 5'6", 156 lbs What was your weight after completing the fast? What is your weight now? 134 lbs Why did you decide to fast? After quitting smoking and drinking 5 months ago, I wanted to clean my lungs, liver and body. Also to shed some weight and deal with some emotional issues and have time to think in order to make some decisions. What was your biggest apprehension going into the fast? Scared of being bored and quitting early. Did you ever consider ending the fast during the process? Why and why did you continue or stop? No - never did I want to end it, but there were many times when I didn't want to do it and wished time would go by more quickly. Did you accomplish what you set out to do with your fast? Yes. Would you recommend that people have their fasts supervised? Why or why not? Yes - I became very weak and tired. Having people take care of things was great. Also, it provided continued motivation and education. I probably would have ended early if I did it on my own. Why did you choose to fast at the Tanglewood Wellness Center? Location, price, wanted all water fasting. What was your experience at the TWC like? All around, positive. Difficult at times because I kept thinking about "What will I do for the next two weeks, etc". What did you experience during the fast? Weakness, tired, coated tongue, soreness in chest, feeling sorry for myself. How did you spend your time? Reading, writing in my journal, socializing, staring at the wall, sleeping, thinking. Just purified water? Did you get hungry? Only water - wasn't hungry at all - actually became extremely disinterested in food and turned off by it at times. I wanted to get home more than I wanted to eat. Did you get weak? Yes, very - both physically and mentally. What was the best part of the process for you? Weight loss, knowing I am ultimately doing something which I believe to be very beneficial for myself. What was the most difficult part of the process for you? Dealing with boredom, feeling isolated, not knowing what to do with myself. Going stir crazy, knowing I still had two, three, etc. weeks to go at any given point. Was it ever painful? No, the fasting itself wasn't. However, I did experience soreness that manifested itself in my chest for three weeks. What did you experience after the fast? Generally a light feeling, excited to go home! Excited to put all that I have learned into action. Did you experience any changes due to fasting? I physically felt cleaned out, lost weight, mouth feels very clean, emotionally healthier/more together, less anxious. What kind of diet did you follow after your fast? Raw vegan, the suggested diet. I plan to keep things simple as it makes the most sense for me at this point. Was eating difficult afterwards? At first It was difficult - certain fruits were way too sweet. Had very little appetite - am not all that interested in food/eating. Would you fast again? Yes, but not for as long. I'd rather stick to the raw foods so that a much shorter fast would be necessary. What piece of advice would you give to other fasters? PREPARE to be bored. Bring books, magazines, etc - anything to pass the time. It became stressful and upsetting to have so little to do. Additional comments: Overall, a very positive experience. Staff was awesome, always friendly, no stress/tension, relaxed atmosphere. How could your experience at the Tanglewood Wellness Center be improved? Have people knock before entering guest rooms. It's polite, someone may be changing their clothes and it's also less startling. Additional suggestions: More lounge chairs for the deck. Perhaps a second movie or some sort of activity on the weekend. If anyone reading this would like to contact me feel free to do so at: kamattie@hotmail.com Return to fasting testimonials page. |
